Shirley Vercruysse

Shirley Vercruysse is the Executive Producer of the National Film Board of Canada’s BC & Yukon Studio, where she leads the team producing documentary and animation projects. The studio’s latest projects include the feature-length documentaries Because We Are Girls (Baljit Sangra), That Higher Level (John Bolton), The Road Forward (Marie Clements); the animated feature film Window Horses (Ann Marie Fleming); animated shorts I AM HERE (Eoin Duffy), The Mountain of SGaana (Christopher Auchter), Shop Class (Hart Snider) and The Zoo (Julia Kwan); the mid-length documentary Beauty (Christina Willings); and the 9 part documentary series True North: Inside the Rise of Toronto Basketball (Ryan Sidhoo).

Sheila Peacock

As the Executive Producer for Absolutely Canadian in BC and Alberta, Sheila Peacock works with independent film makers to create one hour films reflecting the stories and communities of the West, generally documentaries, for broadcast on CBC TV and the Gem. For the Creator Network, she is again working with independent creators to create projects to be published and broadcast on any and all of CBC’s platforms – Digital, TV, Radio and social – showcasing their talents and perspectives. For North by Northwest she produces interviews and specials presenting creative people and what they create and how they are making the world a better place.

Christine Chiu

Christine Chiu is an analyst in the development department for the Project Development Fund, Passport to Markets and International Industry Initiatives programs at Creative BC. Prior to working at Creative BC, Christine worked for ten years in the business affairs departments at various film and television production companies in Vancouver and Toronto. She also worked in film and TV distribution sales in Toronto and Hong Kong.

Christina Willings

Christina Willings brings 23 years of industry experience to the role of Producer for the TELUS Originals stream of content. Primarily responsible for commissioning content for exhibition on TELUS’ Optik TV and web platforms, she oversees funded projects from pitch through delivery. Prior to joining TELUS, Christina’s production experience spanned long-form drama, documentary and animation, requiring oversight of development, business affairs, production and post-production. As a filmmaker, Christina gravitates to stories that elevate human potential while widening the path to intersectional inclusion. Her own projects have been screened and distributed worldwide, through both linear and digital channels.

Cari Green - Moderator

Cari Green has been producing award winning documentary films (The Corporation, Scared Sacred, When I Walk), and advocating for the Canadian documentary film industry for over thirty years. Green produced the works of leading filmmakers; Hugh Brody, Loretta Todd, Mark Achbar, Baljit Sangra, Velcrow Ripper, and Aerlyn Weissman. Green has served as a founding member and chair of organizations such as Documentary Organization of Canada (DOC), Women in Film and Television (WIFT) and DOXA. Green has a background in distribution, sales and marketing, and shaped a film distribution organization into a viable company for Canadian filmmakers. Green has an MFA from UBC and received the Mayor’s Arts Award and an honorary lifetime membership in WIFT. Green serves on the board of Hot Docs and is co-chair of DOC BC.
