Salute is a journey back to the 1960's to examine what has now become one
of the most famous Olympic moments in history. The 1968 Mexico City
Olympics was notorious for many reasons. When the Soviet Union invaded
Czechoslovakia prior to the games, combined with the mass killing of
Mexican students during the protests, sports and politics were destined to
meet. The outcry followed by complaints of unfair high-altitude in Mexico
City, proved to be just the beginning. Nevertheless, the world could never
have foreseen the dramatic momentum that would build, bringing the
American civil rights movement to the Olympic podium. The defining moment
of the 1968 sporting event occurred on the winners' podium following the
men's 200 metre final. Gold Medallist Tommie Smith and Bronze Medallist
John Carlos made a simple gesture to unite black Americans in their quest
for equality. What Silver Medallist Peter Norman did is now finally being
told by those were actually there.
Winner of multiple awards around the world, Salute is the untold story of three men who stopped the world with a single gesture.
"This wonderful humanitarian story deserves to be told and it's a bit of a surprise it hasn't been told before." Andrew L Urban
Urban Cinephile
"The film has an incredible story to tell. For all of his deeds as a speedster on the track, Norman is best remembered for standing perfectly still." Herald Sun
"Salute is an engaging and well-paced mix of history lesson, sports drama, and personal history."
Anthony Morris
