MOTION PICTURES

In the run-up to the Vancouver Olympic Games, DOXA Documentary Film Festival is very pleased to present a brand new 2009/2010 Film Series entitled Motion Pictures, a selection of award-winning documentaries that look at the complex issues surrounding the body, athleticism, the politics of sports and the drive we have to get our bodies in motion.

Salute is a journey back to the 1960's to examine what has now become one of the most famous Olympic moments in history. Gold Medallist Tommie Smith and Bronze Medallist John Carlos made a simple gesture to unite black Americans in their quest for equality. What Silver Medallist Peter Norman did is now finally being told by those were actually there. Winner of multiple awards around the world, Salute is the untold story of three men who stopped the world with a single gesture.

The Iditarod is the most gruelling sled dog race in the world - a thousand mile race from the south to the north of Alaska in the coldest month, March. Snowblind follows 23 year old Rachael Scdoris who is legally blind as she trains herself and her team of dogs for the epic ordeal.

Motion Pictures kicked off on October 29, 2009 with the 2009 film Off and Running from director Nicole Opper. Since its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, Off and Running has screened at Silver Docs and picked up a number of awards. Read more about Off and Running
