Presented with the Law Foundation of British Columbia, this collection of films profiles Canadian and international struggles for justice and human rights. Covering issues as diverse as First Nations land claims, the Battered Women’s Defense, workers’ rights and anti-terrorist legislation, films in this section will be followed by discussions.


Bananas!*

In this gripping documentary, a group of Nicaraguan banana workers take the American food company, Dole, to court over the health effects of the pesticide Nemagon.

The Experimental Eskimos

Three men are reunited to reflect upon a 1960s social experiment undertaken by the Canadian government, which resulted in them being removed from their families and raised in Ottawa.

It is estimated that 6,000 girls are subjected to FGM every day, but in countries across Africa women are leading a grassroots movement to end this human rights violation.

A team of women lawyers in Afghanistan, navigate the chaotic streets and the justice system in Kabul to defend their clients – women and girls fighting to reclaim legal rights.
